Clubs Involving Young Collectors
================================

We often observe when reading or hearing interviews with the leadership of many collecting clubs - time and time again - your reference to having starting collecting when you were a kid.

At the same time, we are continually hearing the concerns of our club leaders about the aging factor relative to your membership. (The average age of members in a number of clubs ranges between 50-60 years old.) Clubs can't seem to find ways to reach, to bring in, and to involve young collectors. These club leaders can't even seem to recall what it was that specifically made them start collecting when they were young...and then fast forward it.

The Association of Collecting Clubs has had a program relating to reaching young audiences almost since our beginning. Visit: http://collectors.org/ACC/Programs/YoungCollectors/ We have worked with several collecting publications on major features in this area, and have had a display on young collectors in our booth at the Atlantique City show.

But the drum keeps beating. Help us reach younger collectors! So over the winter months this will be one area we intend to give some priority attention. We have identified 60-70 clubs just through what knowledge we have gleaned from a variety of sources which we know are actively involving young collectors. Some of their activities are basically routine. Others are more creative. If your club or association has an interest in this area - whether you are now doing anything or not - let us know. What have you done to recruit and involve young collectors that works...or that doesn't work? Send us articles, photos, stories... If you are actively going "into" the schools or working with youth groups, e.g. the Scouts, Campfire, 4-H, Boys & Girls Clubs, etc. let us know how this is working, and the process.

We will put together an exhibit on this area for the March Atlantique City Show and possibly for use at other shows or in antique malls or club conventions, and will use the information to expand the ACC young collectors program area on the Collectors.Org website. If we can find the resources, we may be able to do a DVD or something similar for club leadership.

Please note: we break the term "young collectors" down into three specific age groups - 12 and below, 13-19 year-olds, and 20-30 year-olds. Obviously the recruitment and the involvement is going to change measurably with each of these groups.

If you have a designated youth coordinator or youth chairman in your club, please pass this ACC Update on to them for a response. Send to: ACC, 18222 Flower Hill Way #299, Gaithersburg, MD 20879 or e-mail: Youth@collectors.org

Join A Club - Update Reminder
==============================

In the ACC Update sent out to our ACC member clubs and partners last week we urged you to assist by requesting one of the Join A Club display kits for use at your club activities or specialty shows in which you may participate. We heard from very few of you. Remember, the Join A Club program is all about membership recruitment. Unless you already have more members than you can handle or have reached some magical membership quota, we would expect this program to be of interest.

If this is the responsibility of your PR Chairman or Membership Chairman, please pass this ACC Update along to them so they can respond. Go up on: http://JoinAClub.Org and review the program. Remember, this program costs you nothing...its a service to our ACC member clubs.

We are again repeating the Join A Club - Participate article which appeared in last week's ACC Update. We hope to hear from you or your designate soon - e-mail: info@JoinAClub.Org or call 301.926.8663.

If its easier, just return this newsletter with the following information:

Join A Club - Participate
=========================

ACC's Join A Club program is all about membership recruitment. We certainly do not intend for this program to replace your own club's recruitment activities, but to simply add to it. This is particularly true in perhaps reaching new audiences of potential members who you may not now be reaching. Our Join A Club display at a paper show may well recruit new members for a model train club or a coin club or a gem & mineral club. Who knows?

It's easy for you to add a Join A Club link to your own club website. Have your webmaster go to the Join A Club Logo Store on http://JoinAClub.Org and use the "Participating Club" logo/link. If you require logos in a different format, let us know at: info@JoinAClub.org and we'll make them for you. The more exposure we get to the JoinAClub.Org website the more potential members for your club...and all other participating clubs. Remember, most participating clubs already have direct links from the JoinAClub.Org website to your club website in the listing of Participating Clubs.

Also, if your club sets up at any shows - glass shows, stamp shows, general collector shows...or sponsor your own shows...we would be happy to send you Join A Club displays. Just let us know where to send it via postal mail and how many you need. Send your request to: info@JoinAClub.Org or call 301.926.8663 The display includes a full color Join A Club poster (in two sizes - 12" x 18" & 24" x 36"), quantities of check-off sheets, tent cards, buttons, instructions, re-order sheet, etc.

If you have special relationships with antique malls, galleries or auction houses which you feel would use a Join A Club display, we welcome this information, too. Particularly help in reaching the managers of specialty shows such as glass shows, paper shows, military shows, doll shows, train shows, toy shows and more.

Remember, in addition to the general check-off sheets listing most of the clubs, we also have subject-area check-off sheets listing just glass clubs or just porcelain clubs or just advertising clubs, etc.

This is a major program for ACC in support of our member clubs but to get the most mileage for the program, we encourage all our clubs to actively participate by promoting the program, as well. Remember, all clubs have members who have collections that go beyond your area of collecting, or who have friends who collect in other areas. This is a good service for supporting membership recruitment of all collecting clubs.

If you have not yet taken the opportunity to visit the new Join A Club website - http://JoinAClub.Org - we urge you to do so.

Join A Club - To Our Partners
=============================

To a great degree, the success of the Join A Club program - providing opportunities for collectors to request information from clubs in which they have an interest - will rely on you - our partners. The more Join A Club displays we can place in antique & collectible shows, particularly specialty shows, and in antique malls, auction galleries, etc. the more collectors we will reach. Think of this as not only a way to help collecting clubs with membership recruitment, but as a service in providing information on clubs to your clientele. If you can use a display, please let us know - info@JoinAClub.Org or call 301.926.8663. Please re-read the above article for more information or visit the JoinAClub website.

If you cannot use a Join A Club display, then we request that you please consider placing a Join A Club logo on your website with a link to the Join A Club website. Have your webmaster go to: http://JoinAClub.Org and then to the Join A Club Logo Store. Use the "Supporting Partner" logo link. If you require logos in a different format, let us know and we'll make them for you.

Like the clubs, if its easier, just return this newsletter with the following information:

ACC News Service
================

Remember to use the ACC News Service - http://news.collectors.org

This is the News Service which features announcements, news articles and features from collecting clubs. Add your article directly or make sure we're on the news release mailing list.

Last week over 100 articles were added to the News Service. This is not only a good way to get information out about your club's activities, upcoming shows or conventions, special projects or features on members, but also a good way to keep up-to-date on what other clubs are doing.

We can be reached by e-mail at: NewsService@collectors.org

That's all for now. Let us know any time that we can be of assistance.
