Atlantique City Coming Soon!
============================
The Atlantique City Antiques & Collectibles Show will be here soon - Oct 15-16.
ACC will again have a booth, promoting collecting clubs and associations.
Through partnering with the show management, we have 3 booths and will probably
be representing nearly 250 clubs.
The visitors to this show are serious collectors and our booth has always been a
popular stopping point. For those clubs who have participated in the past,
unless you heard directly from us within the past 3 weeks, you can assume we
have enough of your materials for this coming show. We wrote individually to
some 40 clubs who we felt either had outdated material or the supply was
exhausted.
We also wrote to a number of ACC member clubs who have not participated in the
past. It's not too late to send us promotional brochures or membership fliers
for this show. Send them to: ACC, 18222 Flower Hill Way #299, Gaithersburg, MD
20879 by Oct. 8. If you have any questions please call 301.926.8663 or e-mail:
AtlantiqueCity@collectors.org
If you are planning on attending the Atlantique City Antiques & Collectibles
Show, please stop by the ACC Booth - #1991 - and say "hello".
Hurricanes and Collectibles
===========================
Our office has received several heart-breaking phone calls over the past two
weeks from people in Mississippi and Louisiana who totally lost their homes
including sizeable collections. Other than homeowners' insurance, none of them
had special collector insurance policies, although most realized that they
should have had a special policy but just "never got around to it."
We're trying to help these people find appraisers and possibly get some partial
payment from their home owners' policy.
We have mentioned this before, but we're going to keep hitting it. Making sure
your members have insurance on their collections is one of the best services a
club can provide.
There are a number of special policies you can check out, however we feel the
Collector Insurance Program provided through Association Insurance
Administrators, which ACC offers our clubs, is one of the best and it is the
most reasonable. Go to: http://insurance.collectors.org and check it out.
Not only can you promote individual insurance policies for your club members,
but your club can have your very own club-sponsored program through the
Collector Insurance Program and the club receives an administrative fee for each
policy written.
If you have questions, write to insurance@collectors.org or call the AIA Office
at 1.800.287.7127.
Join A Club - Helping Clubs Recruit
===================================
As we mentioned in our last ACC Update, most of our efforts at ACC during the
past five months have related to this new program centering on membership
recruitment for your clubs and societies. This program will use the larger
antique malls, antiques & collectibles shows, collector publications and auction
houses to provide an entree for collectors to request "more information" about
clubs in which they have an interest.
The last of the printing jobs relating to this project are scheduled in this
coming week. We plan on launching the program at the Atlantique City Show. The
program has its own website at: http://JoinAClub.Org Be sure to check out your
club's information, particularly the contact information. If you are not listed,
please let us know.
Club Directory - Time for Update?
=================================
Closing out the "convention season" for many collecting clubs - which often
means changes in officers and in contact information - its probably time to take
a look at your information on the Club Directory. You can go directly to
http://collectors.org/CD/Club_Index.asp
to check it out.
You can sort clubs by club name alphabetically, or by type of club. This groups
clubs by collecting areas. By "clicking" on any club, you can scroll down and
find the form for submitting new or updated information.
The Club Directory on the ACC website is the most up-to-date directory on the
Internet. This popular directory is produced by the Association of Collecting
Clubs in partnership with David Maloney. All entries appear in both the ACC Club
Directory and in the Maloney's Antiques & Collectibles Resource Guide.
With over 2,500 clubs currently listed, the directory provides such information
as the club name and address, the name of your publication, a description of the
club and your website address. In addition, the directory allows visitors to
search the clubs by club type, club name, club description or name of club
publication. No other directory provides all of this high visibility information
on your club...and at no cost to you.
Make sure your club is listed. And, make sure your information is current.
